WoW Hunter Professions
With Wrath of the Lich King Blizzard has tried to even out the profession perks in World of Warcraft, as players tended to switch to the most effective profession whenever something changed in the past. Although there are still some minor differences most professions provide the same bonus now.
Jewelcrafters are able to cut unique epic gems. Three of these can be socketed into their equipment. As these gems are prismatic this makes it easier to fulfill the requirements for a meta socket and they contribute a greater stat bonus than the normal gems.
Blacksmiths are able to forge an additional socket into their gloves and bracers, which then provides a bonus depending on the used gem in that socket. An enchanter is able to enchant his rings, an ability they already had in Burning Crusade. Leatherworkers, a profession very popular among Hunters, are able to add a special fur lining to their bracers, which overwrites the normal enchant, but provides a greater bonus and costs far less.
The new profession, Inscription, provides special shoulder inscriptions. These aren't just much stronger than the ones obtained from the Sons of Hodir, but you also forgo the annoying reputation grind with them, even if this is more bearable as a Hunter than it would be with a healing class.
Tailors and Engineers do not get a great bonus from their profession, at least not for Hunters. Tailors are able to enchant their cloaks with a special embroidery, but the ones available are of little use to a Hunter. Engineering, while a popular profession for Hunters, get lots of gadgets and tools, but these "tinkers" overwrite normal enchants and have a reduced effect.
An alchemist gets the ability "Mixology", which increases the duration of flasks and elixirs and increases their effect. Additionally you get the effects form the old alchemy specializations.
